Starting at the beginning...

This is my blog. This is the first time I have written anything even close to a blog, so I am learning as I go. I hope you can laugh, learn and enjoy this with me.

First off, my name is Michelle Schluter and I am the owner of Body & Skin Rejuvenation, LLC. I am a massage therapist and esthetician, sole owner, buyer and decision maker. If it fails, it’s my fault. I love my business though. I am thrilled that I was able to take this leap and even more thrilled that it has been successful and is continuing to grow. I am crediting this success to my desire to continue learning. To value the process, not the prize and to know I can always get better. Therefore, I am starting a blog…

How it all began...

In January 2006, I started school for massage therapy. I also found out I was pregnant, and my due date was 2 weeks before graduation. So, I said to myself, you’re here now and you’ve already signed all the papers and moved your things so Let’s Do This! I paid more attention to my health, my body and my mind and because I could feel what an expectant mother would feel, I learned more about massage with expectant mothers. Not what I was expecting to do when I first signed up. I wanted sports massage with a football team and sweaty boys! Someone else had other plans for me…

I graduated in the top 5 of my class and even wrote a 13-page paper on hip dysplasia because I missed 2 days of class. I finished out the year working at the school until my apartment lease ran out, then I moved back home and studied for the National Exam. When I received my Iowa license, I started working at Headquarters Hair Design, now Salon 304, in Lake Mills. It was VERY part-time, so I started a full-time job to pay the bills. 8 years later, I was still doing that… :(

In 2008, I decided to go back to school for an Associate’s Degree in Business, while still working full-time and massaging part-time. I took all the classes I wanted to learn before the classes I needed to take. Credit wise, I have more than enough to graduate but, unfortunately, I was never able to complete the full business management course.

In 2012, I started school for esthetics so that I could do more with the clients I already had. After graduating, obtaining my Iowa and Minnesota licenses, I started looking for a product line. This was an equally slow start but after trying 3 different product lines, I finally found one that I truly liked! This provided all the difference. They provided more training and the support I needed to help me grow. My skincare practice started to take off.

November 2015, I was able to quit my full-time job and devote all my time and energy to my business. MINE! I could run it the way I wanted. I could advertise the way I wanted. I could work the hours I wanted. I could put more time on education. I suddenly had lots of free time and so much to do. I loved it!!

Then I moved to my current location, I finally felt like I was where I was supposed to be. The atmosphere, the vibe, the location, the beauty of the building, it all just worked. Now I am digging into the whole-body health and nutrition aspect. Will you continue to learn with me?

Stay tuned for more!
